Website layout

I created a mock up website design on Indesign. Have a look and see what you think. I havent thought about a logo yet which i really want to do. I found a really creative layout in a magazine (cant quite remember the name but i shall find it and scan in a copy) It had vertical slices of photos from each section of the magazine this represented the contence, under each picture it had a number indicating the page. I thought this was really clean cut and a new way of guiding people through.

I also in this layout i put my name that i illustrated with the spots. I created an alphabet in this same font and made different titles for the rest of my website. I am not sure that i like this because you cant read it very well and if potential customers will be using this website to view my work then its needs to be easy to read otherwise people will get fustrated and bored.

">

So i think i might just stick to a normal font and create a logo that i can use throughout instead.

CV lecture and Enhanced communication and promotional strategies.

Today we had a lecture about making a good CV. Steve Gordon gave us tips about how to make it fit you and how to attract the companies you want.
visual impacts/ first impressions are very important if your CV looks boring or is to long and wordy they just wont bother.
tailor it to every job you apply for
need to have perfect gramma and spelling (so would be good to get someone to check it over to make sure its right)

Top of the CV - My address
                DOB
                     Website
                 Email
                                Phone number
blocks of texts are easier to read (can use indesign)

Personal Profile should be 30 words, dont make it too long. You have to advertise yourself.

Put down all the fashion experiences i have done - Dates
                                                                                                    List of responsibilties/ achievements

say i have skills in CS4
try and fit CV all on one page
dont put a photo on it

Covering letter
address top right and date below
address of person sending it to on left bit below my address
greeting on left
1st say why your writing (if responding to an advert quote where and what date)
Body - get them interested, little bit about company and you know what their looking for. Expand on your CV skills.
Close - when i am free to be seen
yours sincerely

Enhanced communication and promotional strategies

Kenneth Cole - 'The birth of a shoe company' he wanted to preview his line of shows a Market Week at New Yorks Hilton Hotel but didnt have enough money. He inquired about a parking permit to put a trailer two blocks down from the hotel. You could onyl get a permit if you were a production company so Cole changed his company name to Kenneth Cole Productions. He then went on to film 'The birth of a show company'. In 2 1/2 days he sold forty thousand pairs of shoes.

Here is one of his newer videos.
'American brand name shoe designer Kenneth Cole has started a new ad campaign with the theme "we all walk in different shoes", featuring matisyahu [hassidic reggae artist] among others, recognizing interesting individuals who have refused to conform to societal boundaries.'

'Vancant' - exhibition store that opened for a month in a different countries.
'Imitation of Christ' - perspex box selling different stuff (puppies, dresses)
December 2005 Collette and Comme de Garson store - 'Vacant accused them of stealing their idea)

Companies want to try and attratch new customers. They do this by advertising in a new and creative way. It gets customers interested because the coompanies are doing something different. And thats what eveyrone wants to be apart of.

Adidas pop up truck

Diesel - Save yourself campaign

I really enjoy Diesel's campaigns. Sometimes a little bit too confusing and not in focus like 'Pete the meat puppet' but overall they draw in new customers and keep their olds ones interested.

I found this interview in ID magaizne Spring 2010. With Renzo Rosso the founder of the hugely successful Diesel brand.

Ambeint media - use environment to advertise, plant sceen and crop circles.
Like this advert above a unrinal advertising Mini's. Using popular landmarks works well.

Wonderbra - uses good humour
Interactive billboards.

Installations - Orange bikes that were put all around New York city by DKNY. Although in cases like these it can back fire. White bikes are put in place when a cyclist has died in a cycling accident. So these orange bikes were seen as a disrespect.

Pantene shampoo gives out free samples. This is a very good way of getting people to try your product. It makes it really easy for them to do this and good way of getting new customers.

Anne Sofie Back - video linking to store. 'Crimes against fashion' exhibition of all her rejected work. Makes her old work 'cool' and people will want to buy it.

My name

After trying to create some logos, i decided that i would try out my name as my logo. Again i dont like things when they are messy, i like clean shapes and lines. Not sure on colour yet either, i was thinknig maybe something bright.
This was the first one i came up with and i really like the shape of the font. So i ran with this and did a few designs.
I really like the spotty one. I like how it is very linear. I might put some colour to it, but i think i will prefer the black and white. This would be nice to use as a general font for my website.

Logo/Name

I want to create a name/logo for myself. This is mainly to help give structure to my website, but also it will help people identify me in the industry!I started thinking about things that i like and that make me. I couldnt get much inspiration or come up with something that i was happy with. So i started to play around with my name and my initials.

Theses were my starting points. I am not sure if i want to use my initails because it seems a bit boring. But i came up with some nice simple shapes which work quite well.
From this i cut out two j's and played around with two of the shapes i liked the most.

I was affraid they mite look to much like my initails and i didnt want to make this to obvious. So i drew some out on illustrator and i think these work better.
I like this design however i think its too simple and i am not sure it will work well. I think its looks to much like hierogrlyphics.

This was my other design, i like this one better, however im still not sure that theses work. I am gonig to try out doing my name i think this will be better. I would like a logo though so going to have to think about this a little bit more.

Attaching the cut outs to the rail

Here is a diagram of how i might attach the life size cutouts to the rail. I thought having a a small loop either thread or metal on the back of the cutout and having a 's' hook that hooks from the loop onto that rail. I think this might be the easiest way without damaging the cutout.

Average height for a women

I have decided that my cutouts will only be for women. I think this will be the majority of the people that will attend this event. Also i think it could be quite funny getting men to wear womens garments.

I found out some average sizes of women.

Here is a diagram i have drawn up to reflect how long i think the tops and dresses should be. This is based on the measurements above. I am going to test these against really people and see how they measure up.

107cm - full length dress
109cm dress to knees
71cm - top
Knowing these measurements i now know how big my sheets of card need to be!
